Retinol+ Q&A

Q. WHAT IS RETINOL?

A. Retinol, also known as Retinyl Palmitate, is a type of Vitamin A, which has a lot of benefits for your body. Good for vision, it helps to maintain a healthy immune system and promotes cell growth. It is also advised as a treatment for acne and ageing skin.

Q. WHY IS IT GOOD FOR MY SKIN?

A. Sometimes skin needs a little help to look its best. Retinol speeds up cell turnover
which means that it facilitates skin renewal. It helps to rejuvenate the skin and leaves
it firmer and smoother.

Q. IS THERE A DOWNSIDE?

A. Boosting the cell turnover for a longer period can make your skin become thinner
and irritated as the cells at the surface are younger and more vulnerable.

Therefore we recommend using Retinol as a treatment for a period of 6-8 weeks a couple of times per year to get the best results. You can use the other SUPER FACIALIST ranges between each period.

Retinol leaves your skin more sensitive to sunlight, so you have to protect it more. There would be no point in getting the anti-ageing benefits of a Retinol cream, only to have them undone by sun damage. Ideally go for sunblock or for minimum SPF 25 as a daily protector, even if it’s not sunny, and avoid sun exposure.

Q. WHAT IF I HAVE SENSITIVE SKIN BUT STILL WANT TO USE IT?

A. SUPER FACIALIST RETINOL+ products can be used even if you have sensitive skin as
they are dermatologically tested. We simply suggest to build up Retinol use slowly to help your skin to adapt. You can start using it every third day for a week, then alternate days for a week. You should see the benefits of the Retinol and be able to move to daily use after two weeks.

As your skin will be more vulnerable, don’t forget to apply sunblock every day and avoid sun exposure.
